This process is used if a Discontinue Date was not selected when the Order was first written and/or to discontinue an order, so the end-user can re-write the order. Based on either state regulation or agency policy patient orders are re-written every X number of days. To re-write an order you would discontinue the current order. When an order is discontinued the associated schedule is also discontinued. After the order is discontinued, re-write the order and the schedule following the same process as if you are creating a new order/schedule. Follow the steps below to discontinue an order.
The steps below are the same for the TGI Medication Order Form v2 AND TGI Medication Order Form v3.
NOTE: If you dispensed an order (you provided medication to a patient) no matter what the amount, you can re-write the order, but you will not be allowed to dispense to that patient the same day using the Medication Dispense Screen. You will have to use the Medication Dispensing Admin Screen to dispense. In the instance that the patient order amount (mg) has increased you would only dispense the net difference between the old order and new order from the Medication Dispensing Admin Screen.
